100 million dollar tournament

There is an online poker site that is offering a $100 million Mega Tournament in April 2006. How they are awarding the prize money makes me question the validity of their claim.

The $100 million prize is going to paid out as a bonus for winning the final hand on a Royal Flush of Spades.

The bonus payout schedule is as follows.

1. Spades Royal Flush- $100 Million
2. Any Straight Flush - $1,000,000
3. 4 of a kind Aces - $500,000
4. 4 of a kind Kings - $500,000
5. 4 of a kind Queens - $250,000
6. 4 of a kind Jacks - $250,000
7. 4 of a kind 10's - $250,000

Personally I feel that claiming you are offering $100 million prize for a tournament and then only offering it as a bonus is as close to false advertising as you can get in my books.

It's not like they are going to have to pay out this amount of money. As you can see below it's very unlikely that anyone will be able to make the $1 million hand let alone the $100 million dollar one.

Approx odds:
Spades Royal Flush - 1 in 2,598,960 possible hands
Any Straight Flush - 1 in 64,974

With these odds it's a pretty safe bet that the 100 million dollar bonus prize will go unclaimed but the coverage it gets for their tournaments is a guaranteed bet.

That's all, I fold.
