WSOP in Trouble?
It seems that the WSOP is in some legal hot water with the Travel Channel. WSOP has been interested in developing a new poker series called the "Professional Poker Tour" and approached ESPN claiming that the Travel Channel declined the show. This is the heart of the legal challenge. Discovery (Travel Channels parent company) states they were never given the option for the PPT which violates the contract between WSOP and the Travel Channel.
Now I don't really care who did what when and why, that's for the lawyers to argue and the courts to decide. I care about poker and what might happenbecause of this case. I can't see WSOP and the Travel Channel staying together beyond the contract, but what will the future between these two be like? Just this year these two parties agreed on a few key elements like advertising in the game which looked like they would make the WSOP show and brand stronger. But will the Travel Channel be open to such WSOP innovations in the future and will the WSOP be open to ideas from the Travel Channel? Will the show be moved around in different time slots? A tactic which everyone knows kills a show.
I know if anything happened to the WSOP another show would step up to take it's place, but on a whole, the quality of the play on the WSOP is far above the play on any other shows like Celebrity Poker. I guess only time will tell if this dispute is settled without or with hard feels on one or both sides.
That's all, I fold.

I've always wanted to be a part of the WSOP. Guess I should schedule my next gambling trip to Vegas before the event.
